How to Create a Positive Business Mindset

Plenty of people will give you tips on how to succeed in business. But one of the most permeating and effective ideas is to keep a positive mindset. If you think negatively, you'll often simply discourage yourself and give up too soon. Keeping yourself positive will encourage you to keep going, keep trying, and eventually succeed. Here are just a few ways to turn your frown upside down and jump-start your success.

Positive affirmations: This idea operates under the concept that if you repeat something enough times, you're eventually going to start believing that it's true. While it can seem silly when you get started, it's a proven method of changing your thought processes and giving you a better attitude.

There are a lot of different methods you can use for positive affirmations. A good one is to take time out of each day with a pencil and a piece of paper. Start by writing something positive about yourself. Be sure that what you write is about you, is good and affirming, and is in the present tense. You can continue by coming up with other phrases to say about yourself or by writing the same statement over and over.

To take this one step further, try writing your reactions to your statements next to them on the page. It doesn't matter if your reactions or positive or negative, it just has to be honest about how it makes you feel. Eventually, you'll see your reactions becoming more positive (or at least less negative). That helps you know that you exercises are working and changing your attitude about yourself.

Surround yourself with positives: If you are constantly surrounded by negative people who only focus on the bad things, sooner or later so will you. In your personal and professional life, try to maintain relationships with positive, affirming people. Maybe they aren't successful, but they look on the bright side and make themselves feel successful. Eventually, their good attitude will rub off on you.

Meditation: If things aren't going well for you, or you're constantly surrounded by negative people and ideas, your mind is probably full of lots of thoughts, many of which aren't good. Clearing your mind of all the hassles can help you improve your mood, and meditation is a great way to accomplish this. It also can help you sleep better, feel better physically, relieve pain, and improve concentration.

Visualization: Take a moment to think about why you're doing what you're doing. Is it to make money to buy your dream car, or is it to make enough to send your children to college? Whatever it is, keeping your goals in mind will help motivate you to work harder and keep going. It will keep you thinking about the good things that will happen from your work instead of your current setbacks.

So how do you keep these goals in your mind? Visualize them. If you can picture them, they'll be more real and tangible to you. To help you visualize, you may want to put visual aides in your work space. Find a free piece of wall space and put pictures of your goals in that space - whether it's a picture of the car you want, the house you want, or even just a picture of your children.

Depending on your personality, staying positive might take some work, but it will be worth it in the long run.

The Sky Is Not the Limit - The Power Of Positivity

We often hear the phrase "The sky is the limit" and often we hear this when the people around us are expressing their negative feelings on the topic at hand. But do you know that there is another phrase that contradicts this cliché? The phrase "nothing is set in stone" is the one that many successful people use whenever they try or aim for something and that, with the power of positivity, can make anything in this world possible.

The Power of Positivity

People who are successful use the power of being positive in everything they do. One of the concepts that is practiced in positivity is the law of attraction. The law of attraction might be a scientific concept but it is never truer and more applicable than to our society today. Many researchers believe that what people surround themselves with becomes their own actions and thoughts later on. It might not be obvious or apparent at the start and this surprises many when their actions or feelings are observed later on. This is the reason many sociologists or therapists recommend that individuals should surround themselves with positive things to ward off negative feelings.

Another area of being successful is to envision one's own desires and put it into action. Oftentimes, one wants to achieve something but lacks the desire to see it through. Many people blame others for their failure to reach their goals which produces negative results as well. When one wants to become successful, it is important to focus and put their thoughts into actions and carry the responsibilities that come with achieving what they want in life. By taking responsibilities and initiative, one is more concentrated and motivated to reach their goals in life.

What to do to Harness Positivity

When people want changes to happen to their life, they need to understand that they have to leave their comfort zone and start taking charge of their lives. It may be uncomfortable at the start and even cause friendships to end, but sometimes changes can be awkward but may also be the best thing to happen to your life. Cut the negativity that runs in your life - people who you think will drag you down and negative thoughts and envision what you want your life to be. Surround yourself with positive things, find mentors, visualize what you want and you will wake up one day and realize that you have achieved what you want to do and are happier than you were before.

How to Be Successful When Success Comes Slowly

Learning how to be successful in life can be slow sometimes and it can make you feel frustrated at sluggish progress in your success journey - despite all the know-how and principles you rigorously employ.

Can success be sped up? Is there an antidote to slow outcomes despite arduous planning and actions taken? What's the secret for seeing huge results right now?

Let's get one thing straight…

When we admire someone's success, or even our own, we often focus on the end result and not so much on the effort (and time) that it took to become successful. This can cultivate unrealistic expectations, especially the idea that overnight success can happen through careful strategy and an execution of sound advice.
How to be Successful By Focusing on What IS Working

The truth be told, success typically follows a series of little events and achievements that can seem to take an eternity, that include a few disappointments along the way, and that challenge everything about you to the core - your stamina, courage, integrity, and even your willingness to keep going.

If you focus on what's not working, guess what: You're likely coming from a place of aggravation as your mind wraps around all that is wrong.

You may even have negative thoughts like, "I'm not good enough," "It will never work," or "Something must be wrong with me."

What this mentally does is engender more of these counter-productive feelings. You attract what you are feeling. So, negative experiences, people, and results will beget more negative experience, people, and results.

There's not much success in that.

The key in learning how to be successful then, is to focus on what IS working.
Practice Journaling and Meditation

In order to focus on what is working, I recommend two simple practices: journaling and meditation.

Maintaining a journal or as I like to call it, a gratitude journal is a great way to steer your attention to the positive and continually renew your vision for yourself.

Start each day with reflections on what you are grateful for in your life (list them out!) and end each day with notes on what went right (again, write them down) however small they may seem.

Spend time each day in quiet contemplation, prayer or meditation.

Learning how to meditate can be a powerful tool for arriving at solutions to problems and shifting your attitude so you can attract success sooner rather than later.

The magic of meditation is it’s ability to essentially shut down the outer layer of your judgmental, highly-critical brain and allow your unconscious mind to take over. This is where you enter a deeper state of inner peace and joy, tapping into a higher level of creativity that will help usher in the results you want.

Let's say you're doing ALL these things, but you still aren't happy with your success...

I'll ask you then, are you taking real ACTION?

You may be taking the actions you are used to taking. But, if you keep doing what you've already done, then you'll keep getting what you've always gotten. It's a matter of practicing some new behaviors. Shake things up a bit and see if you can take new actions or modify existing ones.

Every day do five specific things that take you toward your goal. Change up the five actions regularly and be open to feedback so you know when you're off course.
Success Takes Patience

Lastly, I want to remind you about patience.

It's natural to underestimate how long a certain goal can take, especially a profound one. When I set a goal to become a millionaire the year was 1983.

How long did it take? Eleven years. It took time for Chicken Soup for the Soul to hit the bestseller lists. You could say our tenure on the New York Times list was more than a decade in the making.

That's a lot of patience for someone who initially wanted overnight success.
Continue to Take Action

So, yes, patience is a virtue. But, keep at it, and in no time, you'll be only one week, or one day away from your ultimate success.

Remember... be grateful, reflect on what IS working and continue to take ACTION!

I want to leave you with a bit of homework to complete. Resolve to start a gratitude journal to begin steering your attention to the positive and continually renew your vision for yourself.

You’re Never Too Old To Be Phenomenal – Here’s Why

A friend said to me the other day, “Tim we’re too old for this.” I said, “too old for what?” He replied, “too old for these people, for this dancing, and for these fun activities.”

This way of thinking is a fictitious story that we tell ourselves, and it’s not true. As a contrast, I feel younger than I’ve ever felt and have more energy than I did when I was 16. I’ve removed labels, societies rules, and anything that doesn’t serve a positive mindset. I encourage you to do the same.

Age is one of those subjects that can bring us down and make us feel inadequate. As I kept speaking to my friend, he suggested to me that once you hit a certain stage of life, our path is set.

If you’ve been an accountant for the last ten years, then that’s what you’re going to be moving forward. If you’ve demonstrated the traits of a leader, then you can become one. Otherwise, it’s probably too late.

The only reason I believe these ideas are untrue is because I’ve spent the last four years reading the autobiographies of the greatest humans on Earth and it turns out that anything is possible, at any stage in life, against any kind of odds. Age has no bearing on your success, and it’s a way of thinking that will bring you down.

Yes, you will die one day, but in the meantime, you still have time to be phenomenal and to show the world what you’re made of. Inspire people and forget about the clock ticking. You should make the most of every moment, just don’t spend all your time counting the seconds of your life away otherwise you’ll be distracted from your real purpose.
Here are 8 things that you can learn at any age:

1. How to come back from a huge mistake

We all do silly things in our lives and make big mistakes. The mistake part is inevitable; it’s what you do after that matters the most. You’re never too old to learn the age old lesson that your mistakes in life are your biggest advantages.

Making a gigantic mistake gives us the opportunity to come back from defeat. It gives us the chance to hit rock bottom and then know that we can’t go any lower. When we reach our lowest point, we can only go upwards again and soar like an eagle.

It’s that climb back from a huge mistake that can reshape our goals and dreams and make us phenomenal. This lesson can be learned at any age so stop fearing the number next to your birthday.

“Fear perfection and a life that has no growth”

2. Love

I should be the poster boy for this one. The reason is that I’m only learning this one now. Without sounding all corny, love is what drives all of us. We all crave it, and we all want to give it. I’m not just talking about love with a romantic partner; I’m talking about with every single human being.

I’m talking about loving the person that sneezed all over you on the bus. I’m talking about loving the person that cut you off in peak hour traffic. I’m talking about loving the person that stole from you or broke your heart. Love is all around us if we let it in.

It’s never too late to learn to love, and when you do, life starts to change. You stop seeing people as objects that you can extract value from, and you realise that they’re your family. All these humans on two legs with all of their problems are outrageously awesome, and we should admire and love them.

“Hate is what will make you feel ten times older. Love is what will make you feel like Peter Pan”

3. Dancing

It’s never too late to dance. That’s right. Whenever you are at an event that has music, be you and dance in a way that feels natural. Feeling phenomenal at any age is about not caring whether you will be judged

Dancing creates all sorts of positive feelings in our mind and it brings us together rather than tearing us apart like the wars that our ancestors fought.

4. Extreme sports

Who says you can’t snowboard or bungee jump? Learning an outrageously extreme sport will add years to your life not take them away. Anything can be learned. As you get older and more mature, you will be able to deal with adversity better.

Use this secret power for good. Let go of all your baggage and rules, and take up an extreme sport that you’ve always wanted to try. Slap the two digits of your age on the face and show them who’s boss.

5. Startups

Whether you’re five years old or ninety-five years old, building a startup can happen at any time. Even if you have no business experience, you can always surround yourself with people who do. If you’re stressed about how old you are, you can even hire younger people.

Just because you may have been in a corporate job all your life, doesn’t mean you can’t find a way to add value and build your own business. Everything required has already been learned in your 9-5 or prior business ventures.

The hidden cryptogram is not so hidden after all. Find a way to create value and then exploit it with every bone in your body. Squeeze every ounce of juice from your passion and unleash your creativity. It’s never too late to do this. Customers want amazing products, not youthful founders.

6. Not being nervous

Nerves are normal. An oversized meal of them is delivered to the front door of your mind when you focus on you. It’s not about you remember?

Lose the thoughts of you, and your nerves will be manageable. You can never eliminate them, but you can learn to use them to overflow your energy and demonstrate passion that is off the dials.

7. Inspiring strangers

I’ll admit, I cheated on this whole list. Many of these points have come from my recent experiences, and inspiring strangers is at the top of what I preach.

When you’ve had way too many people email you with suicidal thoughts and made them think differently, you’ll see why this point is so compelling. Inspiring strangers can be done at any age. All it takes is a gentle soul like you to listen and gives some positive advice.

This advice will take the focus off the pain, and help the person to rebuild their inner world.

8. Finding your why

The question everyone came to planet Earth for. The answer can come at any age, and it will come if you spend time on it. Don’t worry about when you find it. Only ensure that you never stop searching until you veer round the corner of an explored aspect of your life, and see the light shining in the middle of the darkness.

Learning what it’s like to discover your why will help you forget about your age. It will instead give your mind something else to think about it. When you find it, you’re not going to have the time to worry about a stupid number. Instead, you’re going to be on the road to being phenomenal. Isn’t that much cooler than a pathetic number that we celebrate every year?

Tips To Have A Positive Attitude

The quality of one's life is governed by his or her attitude. There are occasions when success remains evasive and there are times when you succeed without least expecting it! Your personal development and success depends to a great extent on your attitude. People with a negative attitude are generally pessimistic and have a negative approach and are avoided by others. Not only do they lead a miserable lifestyle, even those associated with such people get influenced by this attitude. On the contrary people with positive attitudes attract like-minded people. They are full of enthusiasm and radiate confidence.

In order to therefore succeed in life, you need positive people around you who experience great things in their life and people who love to live their life to the fullest.

Take some of the following simple steps to develop a positive attitude.

Think Positive: Learn to develop a positive mind-set. Ignore negativity and keep it away when it creeps into your mind. Simply brush it off.

Talk Positive : Cultivate the habit of using positive words in your conversation. Pessimism creates negative vocabulary while optimism automatically turns your conversation into positivity.

Change your outlook: It is like saying "The glass is half full" not "The glass is half empty". Your outlook on anything brings out the optimism or pessimism in you. Let circumstances and disappointments not discourage you.

Love what you do: To put it differently 'Do what you Love'. When you do what you love, it brings out the best performance from you. There may arise a situation when you have to do something you do not like. Do it anyway and enjoy the process as perhaps that is the only option to achieve your result.

Encourage others: As you sow, so you reap. Encourage and compliment others on their success and positive attitudes. This in itself will give you lot of happiness and get positive returns.

Affirmations: Several times during the day repeat self affirmations. Over a period of time these self affirmations will become part of your system in such a way that negativity will stay away from you.

Expect the best Always : Give no room for doubt. You deserve the best. Demand it in your mind and go after it.

Regularly following and adopting the above few points and referring to several other personal development resources will help develop positive attitude which in turn will give you happiness and success in your life. Since it is your life that you have to live, why should you not deserve the best?

Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

Sometimes we have to do things that make us feel uncomfortable so that we can grow. As individuals we often stay in our "safe places" because we don't want to stretch ourselves to think bigger and do bigger. So we just stay in a place of comfort, even though that place of comfort is no longer bringing us life satisfaction. But to grow and go to the next level you have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. That means you have to become comfortable with change.

Transformation can seem scary, but if you want to experience something different in your life then it is going to take you doing something different. When we are divinely being led to do things often they seem bigger than us, and that makes us hesitant to pursue those goals and dreams. But it is important to remember that God will never lead you to do anything that is too big for you to conquer.

Moving forward with faith makes all of the difference. When you stretch your faith it can give you the confidence to move forward in a powerful way. Faith can also minimize any fear or uncomfortable feelings. Faith might not get rid of them all, but faith can surely make you feel less uncomfortable.

Many of us can look back and see that there were times when we were extremely uncomfortable with change because of the unknown. But in the end many times we were glad that we decided to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Sometimes things in our lives will only change with change.

Plan your next steps of action carefully and don't be afraid to get out of the box, don't just think out of the box, but get out of the box and just go for it. That doesn't mean that you do things that will cause you financial hardship, but what it does mean is that you begin to start expecting more out of your life. Life is too short not too.

14 Reasons to Reach Out to Successful People

It used to be a lot harder to reach out to successful people;
That’s a given, right?
However, regardless of what you want to talk about with your role models and people who inspire you, there’s so many benefits of reaching out to them.
Why should you reach out to successful people?
If you’re a dreamer, and you follow others who achieved dreams similar to yours, then imagine how much could come from you conversing with them. They might just be able to help you in a ridiculous number of ways.

14 Reasons to Reach Out to Successful People

Here’s an awesome list of benefits of reaching out to successful people. There’s so much good that can come from simply shooting someone you admire an email. The possibilities are endless, so read this and see what you think.

1. You Can Learn a Lot from Successful People

The key reason why most people would want to reach out to successful people, would be to learn from them.
If you’re able to talk and converse with someone who has been successful in an area you’re enthusiastic about, that’s huge. They possess the knowledge needed to become successful at what you love to do.
Ask them questions, learn from them. Become more knowledgeable on the one thing you see yourself doing in the future.

2. They Are Almost Always Willing to Help

The great thing about those that are successful is that they often have a very generous mind-set. Most successful individuals will love to help other people. That’s normally how they’ve managed to get to where they are.
Despite everything you might have been told about the wealthy being greedy and only wanting to help themselves, it’s usually the complete opposite.
So don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you look up to, just because you think they’ll be annoyed with you asking questions and won’t want to help.

3. You Can Easily Make Crucial Connections through Them

Just because you send an email or a message to one person doesn’t mean the conversation has to end there. Someone you speak to is likely to know others who may be in a better position to help you or give you advice.
Naturally, they’ll introduce you to these people. It may end up being a crucial connection for you in the future, all thanks to you reaching out to someone completely different entirely.
Just goes to show it pays you try and communicate with successful individuals, no matter how likely you think they are to be able to help you out.

4. Nowadays, It’s Easy to Reach Out to Successful People

Gone are the days where you’d have to try and find your role models in person to try and grab a minute of their time.
Now, it’s much simpler. All you have to do is get their email address, or social media info, and it becomes possible for you to reach out. And let’s face it, it’s not exactly hard to get someone’s email address or Facebook info.
There aren’t really any excuses for not being able to speak to people who inspire you. Unless of course, they just don’t reply. Which is sometimes likely, but that’s why you reach out to more than one person.

5. Successful People Are Inspirational People

As we’ve briefly been saying in the points above, successful people are people you find to be inspirational. Being inspired by others can do wonderful things for you, and that’s probably why you look up to the individuals in question in the first place.

If you’re trying to be an entrepreneur, and you see others who are already successful entrepreneurs, it’s easy to be inspired by them.
Being able to have a conversation with them only enhances this feeling, and inspiration is definitely something we all need more of.

6. Surround Yourself with People You Want to Be Like

They say you become like the 5 people with whom you spend the most time. If you spend your time with negative people, you’ll become negative. If you spend your time with successful people, you’ll become successful.
It’s not exactly guaranteed, but the studies are there.
So naturally, having conversations with people you admire and want to be like, will help you become more like them. Understand the traits they carry, the way they speak and communicate, the attitudes they have and the knowledge that can quickly be passed on to you.

7. Its Very Motivating to See an Insight to A Successful Person’s Life

It’s a tremendously motivating experience to get a wider inside peek at the life of someone who’s successful.
Maybe they end up telling you stories that give small glimpses of some of the things they do on a daily basis. The places they go, the cars they drive, the activities they get up to.
That has to be motivating for you to see right? Knowing that you could one day have access to what they have.
I’ve recently been interviewing people for the Wealthy Gorilla podcast, launching very shortly. It has given me an opportunity to talk with successful individuals and let them share their story with myself, and soon with any Wealthy Gorilla readers when it goes live.
Trust me, their stories are motivating.

8. They’ll understand What You’re Going Through

A successful individual, 9 times out of 10, will have been through everything you’re going through right now.
Maybe you’re suffering from setbacks, disbelief, lack of results, exhaustion, money issues. Talk to someone who’s been there and come out on the other side.
It may just give you the inspiration you need to overcome any challenges in your way. Plus, since they’ve experienced the same hardships, they’ll be empathetic towards you, and more likely to want to help you.

9. It Becomes Easier to Learn From Your Mistakes
When you decide to reach out to successful people, you are making the decision to reduce your learning curve, and be able to learn from any mistakes you make earlier on.
When you have no one to look up to, and you have something you’re setting out to achieve, you only have your own knowledge to go from. Your friends can’t help you. They most likely don’t know what you’re talking about.
So being able to pick up knowledge from a mentor or role model along the journey you’re on, is a huge bonus.

10. You’re A Lot Less Likely to give up on Your Dreams

Most people decide to give up on their dreams thinking that they’re impossible. That they can’t be done, and it’s just not meant to be.
What if you were able to have an actual conversation with someone, telling you they’d achieved dreams rather similar to yours? You’d probably rethink your decision to quit right?
The excuse you gave yourself to give up is no longer valid. Before you give up on your dreams, it makes sense to try and speak with someone who’s in a similar position to the one you want to be in.

11. You Get to Experience Different Traits That Are Important for Success

I think I mentioned in one of the points earlier on that you really do get to understand more about the different traits and attitudes successful individuals carry when you converse with them.
This is an incredibly valuable experience for you because you are shown the qualities and habits you must adopt to become the individual you seek to be like, and to have the life you desire to live.

12. It Doesn’t Take a Lot of Time

Let’s be real here, it doesn’t take long to send an email. After reading through the complete list of reasons to reach out to successful people here, it’ll be clear that the time spent sending emails will 100% be worth it.
There’s not really any reasonable excuse for not reaching out to someone.

13. You Can Practice Your Communication Skills with Them

If you can communicate like a successful and confident individual would, then that puts you in a good position for making new connections, and gives you a vital skill when it comes down to your own success.
You’re able to pick up on how they communicate and reciprocate in a similar fashion, to better your level of communication in the eyes of a successful person.

14. it’s A Confidence Booster

I can’t tell you how much of a boost in confidence you receive, when someone who’s and huge inspiration to you, and clearly has a busy life, is taking the time you communicate and converse with you.
Not only does the boost in confidence come from the fact they’re taking time out of their busy schedule to talk to you. It also comes from the fact you’re speaking to someone who’s done what you dream to do.
They’ve made it possible, and maybe they were once exactly where you are now.

How to Reach Out to Successful People

We now know all the amazing reasons why we should reach out to successful people. Shortly, we’ll also go into several ways of finding people to reach out to, if you don’t know anyone already.
Now, let’s quickly list the steps of how to reach out to successful people:

1. Get their contact information

The first step to reaching out to someone who’s successful is finding their contact information. This process will alter depending on where you found the people to reach out to. If you found them through a website, you should be able to extract their email from the site.

2. Send them an initial message

Send them an initial message, introducing yourself and that you’d love to teach more about a specific interest your both share.

3. Keep it short
Keep the initial message short. There’s nothing people hate more than being emailed and essay that contains someone’s entire life story.
Keep it short, keep it sweet.

4. Ask for a more substantial conversation possibility

Ask if there’s a possibility of having a more substantial conversation in the future; maybe through Skype or in person. Just a scenario where the person can set aside some time to talk to you in more detail.

Where to Find Successful People to Reach Out to?

I mentioned earlier on in the article that it’s become far easier to reach out to successful people in recent years. So where can you find them? And I don’t mean where you can find their info, I mean where can you find them in the first place.

Here’s several ways to find successful people to reach out to:

1. Personal Websites
Doing simple google searches on the topics you’re interested in can easily bring up the websites of successful individuals within those areas.

2. YouTube Videos

Many role models have risen from YouTube, and if you’re reading this article you’re probably an avid viewer of motivational videos on YouTube.
Again, simple searches can bring up the channels of people who you’ll be inclined to reach out to.

3. News Articles
Regardless of where you see it, on TV, on the internet, or in the newspaper, news articles featuring a certain individual’s story might be appealing to you.

4. Social Media Searches

Hashtags are probably your best friend on social media. Using them well and with your interests included can bring up profiles of people you’d be very inspired by.
I’ve recently been adding people on Facebook, with whom I share many mutual friends. Through this I’ve been able to connect with many successful individuals. Which brings me to my next point.

5. Mutual Friends

It doesn’t have to be through Facebook, in person still works powerfully today. You may be aware of friends who know individuals you might like to reach out to.
If you’re friends know any individuals who work high up in companies, are entrepreneurs, or successful in your desired profession, ask them for an introduction.

6. Speaking Events

Speaking events are going to attract large numbers of like-minded individuals, and plenty of opportunities normally present themselves during these events to introduce yourself to others.

Summary

We’re coming towards the end of the article on why you should reach out to successful people. This is the part where we recap in short all the points we’ve made throughout the article, and how you can start to take advantage of this information.
