Why It’s Important to Find Good Teachers & Mentors

“Fear not what is not real, never was and never will be. What is real, always was and cannot be destroyed.” – Bhagavad Gita

“You will never get a job!”

“You will be a failure for the rest of your life!”

“I wonder who can love someone like you?”

“You are stupid!”

When I was a young boy, I regularly heard such things from a particular teacher at school. She always seemed frustrated and told such things to all the kids in class. She would call us names, criticize us and created a sense of fear in all us children.

I, luckily, didn’t pay much attention to her, because I used to read the Bhagavad Gita as a small boy. I learnt how everything happening in this world is temporary and not real, it is all Maya – an illusion. This helped me to fade her out.

But I know not everyone was as fortunate as me. Lots of adults today suffer because of such teachers they may had had in school.

A lot of us have been subjected to such words as children and this impacts us on a deep, sub-conscious level as we grow up. Most of us don’t even realize the damage till much later and where our feelings of fear, low self-esteem, anger and hatred actually come from.

The Importance of Finding Good Teachers

What we hear as children has a big impact on our future. Many people are not able to recognize and change this negative thought process that keeps creating problems and conflicts in their lives. It is like a virus that has entered a perfectly designed and functioning software.

They always seem to have trouble at work, they always feel inadequate, they have failed relationships and feel nobody loves them. This is because as children, they were never taught about how special they are and are an expression of divine love.

This becomes a vicious cycle. They send out the same negative messages and energy out into the world – to their partners, to their colleagues, to their children and to everyone else who comes in contact with them.

We have all meet people who send out a negative vibe, haven’t we? This is nothing but the energy they have within them. It is the thoughts they have been carrying inside them for years.

It is like a raging forest fire that starts with a simple spark.

And this is why it is very important to have good teachers.

On the bright side, the effects of such passive abuse can be gradually reversed as thoughts, patterns and habits can all be changed.

A computer that has been infected by a virus can be very easily fixed by a complete re-formatting and a good anti-virus software. It is the same for us as human beings. If you are facing negative thoughts from childhood, the first thing to do is erase them.

Find Good Teachers

There are various systems that can be used to erase them. The best way is to be in the company of good teachers. And remember, a teacher isn’t only someone who teaches in a classroom. Find and be with people who send out the energies of love, happiness and pure bliss.

Once you are in the company of good people, you will feel their positive energy, love and thoughts rubbing onto you. You will start feeling energized and gradually the old, negative thought process will be replaced by a new positive one.

As you start spending time with good teachers, you will learn about the books they read, the websites and forums they are a part of and the daily practices they follow to keep their mind, body and soul healthy.

Where to Find Good Teachers?

This is something I have experienced personally – whatever our heart desires we find a way to find it. I consider myself to be a perpetual learner and have been blessed to find great teachers and friends everywhere. For instance, I have met beautiful people online through forums.

Once you start searching and send out a message into the Universe that you want to change your thought process and you want to change your life, incredible things will start happening.

Everyone around us can teach us something. You don’t always have to enroll for a course or sign up for a seminar to learn something new. If you notice around you, nature itself can teach you so much about unconditional love.

If you have ever observed an animal, say a dog or a bird, you will realize how they respond to love. They don’t care about anything else, but simply love.

The more love you give, the more you attract it. This works in every sphere of life. Even at work, if you genuinely love and be compassionate towards your customers, employees and employers you will experience incredible change.

Even bad teachers and people who are negative teach us a lot. By observing them, we can learn what not to do and how not to be.

Today, when I look back and remember my teacher in school, I realize she probably wasn’t aware of what she was doing. She herself was a victim of the emotions of hate, fear and anger. I send her love and hope she discovers peace.

Schools and Workplaces

For a better world, we need to ensure that schools and workplaces detect and observe negative behavior.

Teachers need to be made aware of the immense responsibility they carry. They need to be made to understand the importance of love, compassion, empathy and positive thoughts.

Similarly, at the workplace, managers and employers need to be made aware of the way their words impact employee behavior. By changing their words and attitude, they can bring in an atmosphere where everybody is happy, eager to learn and grow.

So many of us would be so much happier at work and in life if everyone simply understood the importance of good teachers. The greatest boon of being a human being is that we can self-learn.

So even if everyone around us is negative, we can still take the first step by inculcating positive thoughts and being happy ourselves.

Irrespective of what is happening on the outside, being blissful is our natural state.

How Confident Are You in Yourself?

This is the million dollar question people ask themselves on a daily basis. The truth is, you can start to improve your life much more quickly than you might think.

So many people get caught up in the idea that they don't have any self confidence that it becomes almost impossible for them to realize that they can attain it. All it really takes is a little time and patience, not to mention a lot of effort. It is definitely worth it and it has the power to completely transform your life if you will just let it.

You may not know it, but confidence actually means "with faith." You can have faith in a Higher Power, faith in yourself or just simple faith that everything is going to be okay. If you really want to have more self confidence, it is important that you start having faith in yourself and your abilities. You can think of this as exercising the most important muscle in your body. Instead of running a marathon or playing sports, you can use this particular muscle to start feeling better about yourself.

How do you actually accomplish this and put this advice into action? The first thing you can do is think positive. If you have to, force yourself to list positive things about yourself, about your day and about those around you. Listen to positive music in order to create more balance in your life. Most importantly, do not beat yourself up every time you make a mistake or you fall short of a goal. Everyone has room to grow and improve and you can take every failed opportunity as a teaching moment in order to learn something for the future.

You can also focus on the things that you're good at. In short, figure out what you are passionate about and then pursue it with everything you have. If you are interested in and passionate about several things, pursue all of these things in order to find out which one interests you the most. Perhaps you'll actually have more than one path in your life as you accomplish many things. No one ever said you had to decide on only one thing.

You can also develop more self confidence if you find someone to confide in. Like everyone else, you will have days where you are so frustrated that you don't know what to do with yourself and you are tired of trying to figure it out. Fortunately, that won't happen to you every day but when it does, it sure is comforting to have a trusted friend that you can talk to. If you don't feel like you have the one you can talk to, find a support group online. The bottom line is to realize that no one is perfect and that you need to have a support system that makes you feel comfortable.

Once you have started developing more self confidence and you see your life improving, one of the best things that you can do is mentor others. There are plenty of people who are in the same boat as you once were and they need help, too.

Remember, you are in control of your life- no one else is. That puts you in the driver's seat and it also gives you the unique opportunity to look back on how you felt when you had your worst days and help someone else get through theirs.

The Sky Is Not the Limit - The Power Of Positivity

We often hear the phrase "The sky is the limit" and often we hear this when the people around us are expressing their negative feelings on the topic at hand. But do you know that there is another phrase that contradicts this cliché? The phrase "nothing is set in stone" is the one that many successful people use whenever they try or aim for something and that, with the power of positivity, can make anything in this world possible.

The Power of Positivity

People who are successful use the power of being positive in everything they do. One of the concepts that is practiced in positivity is the law of attraction. The law of attraction might be a scientific concept but it is never truer and more applicable than to our society today. Many researchers believe that what people surround themselves with becomes their own actions and thoughts later on. It might not be obvious or apparent at the start and this surprises many when their actions or feelings are observed later on. This is the reason many sociologists or therapists recommend that individuals should surround themselves with positive things to ward off negative feelings.

Another area of being successful is to envision one's own desires and put it into action. Oftentimes, one wants to achieve something but lacks the desire to see it through. Many people blame others for their failure to reach their goals which produces negative results as well. When one wants to become successful, it is important to focus and put their thoughts into actions and carry the responsibilities that come with achieving what they want in life. By taking responsibilities and initiative, one is more concentrated and motivated to reach their goals in life.

What to do to Harness Positivity

When people want changes to happen to their life, they need to understand that they have to leave their comfort zone and start taking charge of their lives. It may be uncomfortable at the start and even cause friendships to end, but sometimes changes can be awkward but may also be the best thing to happen to your life. Cut the negativity that runs in your life - people who you think will drag you down and negative thoughts and envision what you want your life to be. Surround yourself with positive things, find mentors, visualize what you want and you will wake up one day and realize that you have achieved what you want to do and are happier than you were before.

5 Tips Make Your Goals Come to Life

1. Do something different. Go for a walk to clear you head, or meet friends at the local coffee shop to brainstorm or respond to questions or to make plans can do you the world of good. Sometimes a new environment has been the key to increasing productivity and creativity for me. Just change things around from your normal day.

2. Setting goals inside and outside of work place are necessary to keep me motivated. If I am just concentrating on work and not also on my home life, I find it harder to want to work.

We all need life outside of our 9 - 5 day. We also need goals for ourselves. You might choose to learn to cook, learn a new language or speed read. Whatever you choose, make it something you will enjoy.

3. Create a to do list. I love lists and highlighting the completed activities makes me happy! Creating a to do list not only helps you to get your must do's out of your mind, it also helps you to think clearly as you are processing less information at any given time. I love that feeling when I get the end of any tasks that I complete, as it gives me a great feeling of accomplishment. I can also reflect on this list in the future to see how I worked through problems if something similar arises.

I write my list in order of priority. I can then to see the scale of what I am working on and be able put my to do's in an order to work in with my day. I usually have several projects on the go at once and this helps me to be balanced over my schedule.

4. Sometimes there are things we just cannot do alone this is when we need to ask for help. This can be one of the hardest things to do, but remember that you can return the favour one day so it does not all need to be one-sided.

If you are at work, make your goal a joint effort and get buy in from the team. If the goal is at home, maybe you could ask your partner, family member or friend if they would like to learn that new language with you so you can practice on each other. Two brains are sometimes better than one.

5. The most important for me is to reward myself when I get to the goal. Don't fall in the trap of constantly looking for the next thing. Take a break, reward yourself and those who helped you get there and appreciate the journey. If you know the reward is coming, it makes it that bit easier to work towards the big goal at the summit.

I find that the main thing for me is to chip away a bit every day. It might be to reach out to someone, write a quick article, remind myself of the purpose or to read over the plan each morning. The focus of the goal must be big enough to make you really want it enough to motivate you to move forward.

Reaching the goals and rewarding yourself will give you the improved mood and revitalised mind and body that will make you and your team want to achieve more! Enjoy the process and reaching the end goal.

10 Crazy Ideas to Help Discover Motivation in Life

Motivation is elusive at times, so each one of us has been challenged to find it when it escapes us. Whether it is for a specific work assignment or simply to move life forward, motivation is an essential feature of high productivity and meaningful output. As a result, we lean on a variety of techniques to keep motivation high and continually adapt our approach to staying inspired. When motivation runs dry, use the following tips to turn things around.

Set a Mini-Goal

Success begets motivation, so setting yourself up to win a small battle is a great way to support ongoing productivity. The morale boost from a minor win creates momentum, which can be all that’s required to ramp-up motivation levels. When tackling a work project, for example, carve-out a short-term benchmark you can easily reach. And if that is not enough to spark a roll, move through subsequent tasks in the same way. Eventually, sustained motivation will set-in, seeing the project to completion.

Turn to Past Success

When frustration or self-doubt get in the way of motivation, turn your focus to things you have done well in the past. Reminding yourself of what you’re capable of is often all that’s required to restore forward thinking and ramp-up motivation levels. In fact, sometimes you can pull lessons directly from your past successes, to be applied to ongoing projects.

Compete

Playing a game or competing in a sporting event stimulates motivation. Pitting yourself against others or even against yourself in a solo sport stirs natural internal responses, which motivate you in all areas of life. Win or lose, competitive juices motivate you to perform at peak levels.

Find Help

Motivation and inspiration are infectious, so leaning on helpers can be a strong force for revving-up your own enthusiasm. Even tapping an associate’s or co-workers expertise for a single piece of the puzzle can be enough to boost your motivation tackling the other aspects of a project.

Get back to Nature

Though it represents a stark contrast to business environments and other fast-paced parts of modern life, nature has an amazing restorative impact on motivation. Walks through the park or a more intensive hike, for example, expose you to inspirational features of nature, which are easily carried to tasks you need to complete. Taking-in the larger picture this way inspires reflection capable of motivating observers to get excited about their own places in the universe.

Study Mentors

When struggling with your own output, it can be beneficial to study examples of the type of work you wish you were producing. Formal mentors can help with motivation directly, by sharing experiences and helping tweak your trajectory. But even studying respected colleagues from afar yields clues to what motivates them and keeps them on track.

Change your Scenery

Sometimes work environments become stale and uninspiring, calling for a change of scenery to boost motivation levels. If possible, shake things up by changing your environment, which can itself stir inspiration. Travel, for example, stimulates worldly feelings, which can be beneficial to self-motivation. And though it is not always possible to get away when motivation wanes, there are nonetheless worthy options found locally, allowing you to stay on-point with assigned work tasks. If you telecommute, for example, try heading-in to the office for a day or two to mix things up. Or if a cubicle stands in the way of motivation, seek permission to deliver remotely, enabling you to complete work assignments at home, the library, or some other inspiring location.

Get Fit

Mind and body are inextricably linked, so motivation levels are influenced by physical fitness as well as mental fortitude. If you find your productivity and inspiration slipping, account for your physical approach alongside the mental exercises you tap to increase motivation. Start slow, to get your blood flowing and synch your and and body. Once positive results are felt, it becomes easier to engage in exercise as a motivational force. Walks and other low-impact movements should not be underestimated for the benefits they bring.

Do the Opposite

Human beings undeniably get in ruts, reinforcing patterns that can be hard to break from. When your motivation slips as a result of sameness, try changing your approach with a radical departure from the status quo. By acting contrary to your standard approach, you’ll open new perspectives and channels of understanding. Even if you determine your original take on things is the best one available, it serves to reinforce your confidence, motivating you to keep up the good work.

Be Forgiving

Second-guessing your methods and performance can be enough to thwart motivation and hold you at a standstill. Rather than becoming mired in negative introspection, forgive periods of diminished motivation with a clear eye toward brighter days. This forward-thinking frame of mind helps you get beyond life’s inevitable speed bumps into positive territory that supports achieving your goals.

Motivation ebbs and flows throughout the course of daily life, and it doesn’t always synch with your personal and professional responsibilities. When motivation dips at the wrong time, it pays to reevaluate your approach using these helpful tips. In the end, jump-starting motivation levels leads to ongoing success for those able to move beyond trying times.

Do You Find Yourself Always in a Bad Mood?

Do You Find Yourself Always in a Bad Mood?

As human beings, it's common knowledge that we will have our downs as well as our ups and our bad moods as well as our good moods. Unfortunately, some of us find ourselves feeling down in the dumps most of the time. Our default mood is bad. We rarely feel good, content or happy.

When this is the case, chronic bad moods can be a symptom of depression or anxiety. Speaking with a registered counselor or therapist using online services can be a highly effective manner of dealing with your bad moods.

Re-think your diet

We are what we eat, quite literally. When we eat a diet of poor food staples, we feel rubbish and this can directly influence our moods. Check your moods; do you regularly feel fatigued, lethargic, depressed, and anxious or down? If so, opt for plentiful amounts of fruit and vegetables, eat plenty of pulses and grains and choose lean meats. Avoid over-eating as this can make people feel bloated and grumpy. Under-eating can leave us feeling panicked and anxious.

Get out and about

The body craves movement. When we move, our bodies release endorphins which boost our feel good factor. Many of us now lead sedentary lives which is bad for us in every sense of the word; bad bodies, bad health and bad moods! Move as much as you can. A general rule of thumb is to try to walk 10,000 steps a day. You can buy a pedometer to count your steps as you go about your day.

Confront what's really bothering you

When we feel bad, there is usually an underlying reason why. Perhaps it is because we are battling with depression or anxiety, we hate our jobs, our commute is too long, we are worried about money or we feel generally unfulfilled. A bad mood tends to be a symptom of a larger problem. Sometimes bad moods can be triggered by lifestyle factors; do you get enough sleep? Do you spend two hours in traffic? These things can build up over time.

Sleep

When we sleep we refresh our bodies and minds. If you sleep poorly, oversleep or don't sleep enough, you might be putting yourself in a bad mood without meaning to. Try to get a decent night's sleep. Leave technology out of the bedroom and make sure that there is no excessive light or noise to disturb your rest.

Meditate

Meditating for just 10 minutes a day can make a radical difference to the way that we feel. The purpose of meditating is to sit or lay in a comfortable space whilst letting your thoughts pass you by. You might choose to meditate in the mornings, throughout your day or before you sleep. There are many forms of meditation so choosing one that suits you is vital.

Consult the professionals: If you've tried the above and your bad moods aren't fading, maybe it's worth consulting the professionals. Licensed counselors and therapists offer online counseling to those who require further help in a discreet, confidential and utterly professional manner. Using all of the above methods in tandem will help you lessen the frequency and intensity of your bad moods.

Getting Things Done Through Motivation

This article is about getting things done by riding on the back of your initial motivation.
There is a window within which we need to do things/get tasks done. Particularly when it comes to working with other people. If you have a meeting for instance, try to follow up the actions you establish at the meeting (make them clear, simple and specific) within three days. If you don't work on the weekends be mindful of the fact that that's two days lost.
If you can't follow up within three days contact the person with/for whom you have agreed to carry out the actions and give them as accurate an estimation as you can as to how long it is going to take you to follow through. This contact is to aid continuity.
In the 21st Century and particularly this age of speed, ideas, concepts and actions go stale very quickly and easily. People are becoming more and more impatient and want fast results. To keep up it's vital that you become really clear (and good) at estimating what you can take on and how long things will take you.
So in terms of follow-up actions try these tips for yourself:
1. During the meeting, when taking notes put an A in a circle next to anything you need to action
2. Back at the office/at home action anything that can be done immediately (that will take you ten minutes or less). Transfer those actions that will take you longer to a master list. Make them as clear as possible.
3. Estimate how long each action will take and therefore your overall timeframe (bearing in mind everything else you need to do.) Keep it real. Give yourself an absolute cut-off date by which all the actions will be completed.
4. Contact the other person/people involved within three days informing them of the approximate timeframe of the longer actions but add on an extra 10-20% to allow for slippage.
5. Incorporate each action into your days/weeks/months, keeping others informed of progress.
6. Keep focused, ticking off actions as you go, and ensuring you're not distracted from other tasks that come along.
7. Try not to go beyond your cut-off date but if you need to (because of unexpected emergencies) inform all involved and set a second cut-off date as close to the first as possible.
8. Celebrate when you complete each action (even if it is just taking satisfaction in ticking/crossing it off a list)
Using this system will ensure your tasks don't become stale.

10 Great Tips for Success in Both Life and Business

Sometimes what helps us to be successful in our professional lives is not such a great idea in our personal lives — competition is a quality that comes to mind. At the same time, we all have a limited amount of time each day to do the things that we want to do.
So for the sake of saving time and energy, I’m sharing a list of tips that will help you be successful in both life and in business.
1. Add Value
No matter what you do and where you go, you can’t go wrong with adding value. Simply put value is anything that people are willing to pay for. In your professional life, the more value you can offer the more money you can make. In your personal life, more value translates to closer relationships and strong personal growth. The best way to add value is to find the intersection between what people are willing to pay for and what service or product you can offer that is aligned with your values, strengths and goals.
How are you adding value to your employers and loved ones today? What can you do to increase your ability to add value?
2. Follow Your Passion
Reading numerous biographies on great people and from my own personal observations and encounters, I’ve realized that those who achieve greatness professional and personally follow their passion. The reason why great people are few and far in-between is because most people don’t even know what their passion is. For those that do figure out their passion, most of them don’t follow their passion consistently. This is one of the main reasons why people don’t reach their goals.
Do you know what your passion is? If not, what are you going to do to find out? If  you do know what you passion is, are you following it?

3. Be Extraordinary

If you do the same thing as everyone else, it’s hard to be successful. It is important to find the edge and then push past it. That is how you become noticed and get what you want. Whether it is money, meaningful relationships and/or a sense of personal accomplishment, the extraordinary person attracts them all.
How are you extraordinary?  If you feel just ordinary, what are you going to do to become extraordinary? For those who don’t know, you may want to check out articles on my blog and also How to go from Ordinary to Extraordinary.

4. Start Now

There are many factors that go into become a success in both your professional and personal life but the one factor that is required is taking action. Most people miss out on reaching their full potential because they never start. They are always preparing, planning and waiting for the best time to start. If I waited until I was ready, I would not have a coaching practice, a website, a blog, a workshop, etc. The stars rarely align and you will never be completely ready so just start now and adjust along the way.
Are you waiting for something before you start? What is your planning to doing ratio? What’s really the worse thing that can happen if you got started right now? If you are someone that’s just been waiting, stop reading this post and get started on what you have been wanting to do. This article will still be here when you get back.

5. Hunt for Good Mentors

People who “make it” usually credit their success to a mentor or a group of mentors who really helped guide them to get to where they are. Mentors have gone down the road that you want to travel and can guide you to get to your destination faster than if you went at it alone. If you want to be healthy, you would find a mentor who is already healthy. If you want to be rich, then you have to find someone who is already rich. What surprises me is how rarely people engage in mentoring relationships and those who do usually find mentors in only one aspect of their lives. If you want to be successful, be active about finding mentors that will help you achieve what you want. Jeff Goins has a nice short article on finding mentors.
Do you have a mentor in your life now? If not, ask yourself what barriers are preventing you from finding or establishing a mentoring relationship? If you do have a mentor, do you have one for the different aspects of your life (financial, health, professional, personal, spiritual, relationships, parenting etc.)?

6. Build a Support Group

While mentors serve as a guide with whom you review your past actions and plan your next steps, a support group are your companions that help you with during the actual execution of your plan. This may be in the form of a mastermind group or accountability partner where you keep each other accountable for your goals and to help each other deal with situations that may arise while you are on your journeys. It is extremely helpful to have someone you know that is willing to listen to your frustrations and self doubt and to encourage you and remind you of how far you’ve already come.
Who is in your support group?
Numbers scare a lot of people. Start talking about assets,

7. Personally Know Your Finances

liabilities and net worth and people’s eyes just glaze over. If you are one of these people who run away from numbers, please stop running because you are hurting yourself. If you want to be financially independent, you need to know how to keep score. If you have your own business or want to successfully invest, finances tell you how well you are doing and reveal the health of a business. If you don’t understand finances, you have to learn. It’s easy once you get over the limiting belief that you are no good at numbers. For those interested in learning more, you may want to check out these personal finance resources.
Do you know you net worth? If you are bad at numbers, what specifically makes you believe that? How can you improve your financial intelligence?

8. Get Help

I have a tendency to try to do everything myself and in some ways it is good and in many ways it is bad. It is important to know and understand all aspects of your life and business but that does not mean having to do all the tasks involved in maximizing your potential in those areas. It is true that we can always learn new things and become competent in them but what is also true is that we are only given 24 hours each day and to live full lives, it is more effective to do what we do best and to outsource tasks that we’re not good at to people who excel at them. Delegating effectively takes trust and the ability to clearly communicate what you want. For those that want to outsource, Elance is a nice way to find some quality freelancers.
How are you spending your time? Is it doing things you are awesome at? If not, what are you doing that you can outsource or delegate so you can devote more time doing what you’re great at? What’s stopping you from outsourcing or delegating?

9. Learn Sales

Many people cringe when they hear the word sales. “I would never be in sales, that’s a sleazy job.” It is exactly this type of thinking that stops people from being their best. Sales is nothing more than persuading someone of something. When you are looking to get a date, you are selling. When you are interviewing for a job, you are selling. When you are trying to persuade your spouse or kids to go to Europe for your family vacation, you are selling. In a professional setting, sales is paramount and the lifeline for any business. If you want to get the most out of life and business, learn the skills for effective selling. I am beginning a series of blog posts on How to Sell on my blog and you can learn from other successful sales trainers by reading material from Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracey and Og Mandino.
When you hear “sales”, what associations come to mind? Are they positive or negative? Do you know the how to sell effectively? If not, how do you plan to learn?

10. Be Resilient

Things rarely work out the way you planned and there will always be distractions and stumbling blocks that you have to deal with when you are on your road to success. The key point to remember is to persist and to develop the courage to move on even when everyone around you is telling you it is ok to give up. This does not mean stubbornly holding on to your original plan but rather continuing to pursue your goal as long as the reasons for doing so is still valid (Make sure you know the “Why” of what you want). When everything seems to be going wrong, keep in mind that “the road to success is paved with a thousand failures” so each failure actually brings you closer to where you want to be. If you have trouble being resilient, check out the 6 Effective Ways to Be Persistent.
How often to you quit because things got tough? Would you descrive yourself as an unshakeable optimist? Do you view problems as opportunities or warning signs? How do you view failure and are you making sure that you don’t make the one mistake people make when learning from their mistakes?
This is not an exhaustive list, but it does provide a good starting point. I would love to hear what tips you have found especially useful in both life and business in the comments section.
